The business expert offers us 5 revealing points on what takes to be successful in life.
Cladded in a long sleeve floral dress, and with her perfectly coiffed blonde mane, the fashion expert, Eva Hughes, silently hid among the clearance area of Butter, a Salvadoran local lifestyle shop. A friend of mine and I, snuck up on her while she was on fully social media duty. She excused herself politely, explaining that she was complying to her Instagram fans´s needs. We stood there watching, and feeling completely identified with her-Thanks to unreasonable XXIc. social demands, who hasn´t been in the position where one has the urgency of uploading a story/post, which if posted later won´t have the same impact, but at the same time fears to be rude to others for being on the phone? (hence Eva´s hiding situation)-. In under 5 minutes, Eva expertly chose photos, angles, filters & captions and uploaded a post and three stories to appease her followers´s hunger.
With that taken care of, she looked back up and asked in her thick Spanish accent: “So, what now?” We introduced ourselves and, after a short exchange, we let her do the talking, taking mental notes of her every blunt advise and bold statements, and thinking how could we apply them to our professional and personal lives. No time had elapsed when we were interrupted by a couple of people that had attended the conference and were dying to meet Eva.
A HANDFULL OF ADVICES
It was a really brief conversation, but the Spaniard´s words had enlightened me in such a way that I new I couldn´t keep them only to myself. I had to share them with others. And so I went up to her once more and asked if she could answer one question for my IG story feed. She complied gracefully. I immediately pulled out my iPhone and asked her: “What advise would you give to someone who is trying to break it in fashion?” To what she replied:
“I will give you 5 advises that apply to so much more than fashion, these tips are for anyone who wants to be successful in life:
- Any dream is possible.
- Adapt your dream to the reality of the industry.
- Never give up.
- Tears are as beautiful as smiles, because you learn so much from them.
- Always keep in mind what your audience needs and wants, above your own desires. Once you know what the audience wants from you and they start paying for it, you know you have reached success.”
